Lesnar, considered as UFC’s biggest pay-per-view star, has won his first fight in a year. It was a bit unexpected, since he seemed the weaker in the opening minutes compared to the previously undefeated interim champion, Shane Carwin.
But in the second round, Lesnar took down Carwin and got him in an arm triangle choke. “I knew he was getting tired. Each shot was less dramatic than the other . . . I stand before you a humble champion, and I’m still the toughest (guy) around,” Lesnar said.
Lesnar previously canceled two bouts with Carwin because he developed an intestinal illness–a disease which almost killed him.
Shane “The Engineer” Carwin is from Greeley, Colorado and is fighting out of Denver, Colorado. He is a member of Jackson’s Submission Fighting and Grudge Training Center. He has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and has trained with Trevor Wittman. He has been fighting since 2005 and is undefeated. This will be his fifth fight in the UFC. He won his last fight in March 2010 against Frank Mir at UFC 111: St-Pierre vs. Hardy. Carwin won by KO (punches) 3 minutes and 48 seconds into the first round. He is going to UFC 116 with a 12 – 0 record.
Brock Lesnar is from Webster, South Dakota, lives in Alexandria, Minnesota, and is fighting out of Minneapolis – Saint Paul, Minnesota. He is with the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy and has an orthodox stance. He has trained with Greg Nelson and Marty Morgan. He has a wrestling style and has been fighting MMA since 2007.
